Eating at Blue Bayou: Disneyland’s Hottest Restaurant

Before you start scrolling for pictures, I sadly do not have any. I was too in the moment to take pictures. Given, we filmed the restaurant a little bit, however it’s incredibly dark in there. If we’re able to edit the lighting decently, we’ll include the footage in the next Disney Vlog. If any of you have been to Disneyland, I guarantee you’ve gone on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. If you have, you’ll know that shortly after your ride takes off, you’ll see a little eating area to right hand side, surrounded by candlelight.

I remember riding Pirates when I was little, passing beside this restaurant thinking it was so magical and exclusive. Well, with this recent trip, Kolani and I decided to look into finally eating at this gorgeous spot. Unfortunately, there were no available reservations until May. We were pretty bummed, because this had been on our bucket lists for so long.

Entering Blue Bayou through New Orleans square, we were literally like little kids on Christmas morning. We had both been wanting to go there for years and the fact that we were finally getting to go together was a dream come true. We were seated right at the brink by the water. The lighting was dim, the humidity was high, and the atmosphere was heavenly. We were smiling ear to ear the entire time.

We each selected the three course dinner, giving us a starter, entree and dessert. I indulged in the Herb-crusted Rack of Lamb, and Kolani got the Bone-In Rib Eye. It was some of the most tender meat I’ve ever eaten.

Our dinner and overall experience exceeded our expectations. We had such a wonderful romantic time together, and I always look back at that dinner with a smile on my face. If you’ve never been I would highly recommend going, you’ll have such a wonderful, relaxing time.

Steakhouse 55: a Review

IMG_3024

I’m already drooling just looking at this picture. Okay, let’s do the review.

This was one of Kolani and I’s favorite meals we had at Disneyland. I cannot stress enough how excited we were to be going back there as adults. We were able to see things from a different perspective, and thoroughly enjoy the things we might have taken for granted as kids. Eating, I believe, was one of them.

When you’re a kid, I feel like as long as you have a pb&j or some macaroni, you’re a happy camper. But when adults go out to eat, it’s quite the contrary. We see the prices, taste the wines, and indulge in tender steaks.

As a kid, I may have heard of Steakhouse 55 before, but it didn’t leave a lasting impression like going on Space Mountain a zillion times.

This time around, I was going out to a nice dinner with my handsome boyfriend and a couple members of his family that I had not met before. So, the nerves were real.

Something else that I also have grown to appreciate as an adult is just how much Disneyland values old Hollywood. The music and set designs of various places makes you feel as if you’ll go back in time and see Walt himself.

Steakhouse 55 has those old Hollywood vibes. There are various large pictures throughout the restaurant of some the greatest actors who have ever lived. Behind me was Marilyn Monroe and baseball star Joe DiMaggio, and just across the way was Cary Grant and Ava Gardner.

We feasted like royalty. Kolani got a juicy steak while I got a lobster tail. The four of us shared delicious sides like mashed potatoes, macaroni, green beans, and asparagus to name a few.

I know I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again-this was one of the best trips I’ve ever had. Kolani and I were floating on cloud nine the entire trip. We relaxed under the sun, ate incredible food, and made beautiful memories.

Although it is pricey, I would highly recommend Steakhouse 55 if you’re planning a trip to Disneyland. You can make reservations and check availability by clicking here.

Trying Uber!

It’s 2018, so I’m sure all of you have heard of Uber and what it does. It’s pretty much the modern day taxi. Anyone with a nice, clean running car can be a driver. Whether it’s driving full time, or just making extra cash, Uber has taken the world by storm. For today’s post, we’re going to to be taking a look at what it’s like to use Uber as a way to get around town.

Earlier this month, when Kolani and I were in Anaheim for Disneyland, we took 3 Ubers in total for our whole trip.

I’m going to break down each ride to give you a better feel for the situation.

First Ride: from LAX to the Disneyland Hotel (at around 1 am).

As soon as we landed, I pulled up the Uber app, to check out the waiting time. I was required not to to request the ride until I was waiting in the proper area. Kolani and I hadn’t checked any bags, so after we got off the plane, we headed straight to the specific baggage claim area the app instructed us to go to. We found the Uber pick up area outside on the curb and waited. I requested a driver who was estimated to be about 6 minutes out. Once you request a driver, the app will show you their picture, reviews, car model, and license plate. The gentleman was very nice, and helped us with our bags. He briefly made small talk, then had us on our way to the The Disneyland Hotel. I think the only downside of our drive from the airport to the hotel was the fact that the driver straddled lanes often. I know it was late, but I feel like if Uber drivers are required to work late shifts like that, then they should be fully awake and prepared.

Second Ride: to In N Out & the Hotel

Okay, out of all the drivers, this one was my favorite. He was very polite and personable. We headed to In N Out, because it was my first time back in California after two years so grabbing some burgers was a must. Our driver was super down to earth, and the drive from In N Out back to the hotel was barely 15$.

Third Ride: Back to LAX

This driver was my least favorite, his driving wasn’t all that great and he ended up making us a little car sick. He was short with us, a little rude, and his whole care smelled like Cigarettes. Just a tip for Uber: try not to hire smokers because the smell is disgusting and seriously overwhelming for nonsmokers. It wasn’t the best way to leave Los Angeles.

All in all, I think the experience was nice. I think as Kolani & I continue traveling, we’ll use Uber if we have no other form of transportation.

Taxi for Two: Why Traveling with Your Significant Other is Important

vitaminfresh.net

It’s undeniable to say that at one point or another, we’ve all dreamed of far away places. Maybe we dream just to see somewhere new, or maybe we dream to take a break from reality. Either way, once the travel bug has bitten you, an overwhelming sense of wanderlust will fill your soul, making you want to pack your bags and never come back.

The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances_ if there is any reaction, both are transformed

I’m always so excited when I’m about to go on a trip, all these exciting thoughts start to flood my mind: what am I going to do, see, eat, hear? I think traveling is extremely crucial for us; we get to live in and experience other cultures. I think all that culture unites us and gives us a better understanding of one another. We become more competent and less ignorant.

Not only do you learn more about the world, but you also learn more about yourself. The same goes for traveling with your significant other. You see all different sides of each other, from the stress of planning to the utter bliss of soaking up the sun together.

Earlier this month, Kolani and I went to Disneyland for about four days. It wasn’t our first trip together, but it was our first flight together. It was honestly one the best vacations I’ve ever had. We were able to reminisce about being there when we were little kids. We made new memories, trying new restaurants, bars, and even playing arcade games for hours. I’ll tell you, when you’re sitting there with your love in a hot tub in sixty degree LA weather underneath the palm trees, nothing else seems to matter.

Disneyland

There will even be times when your trip won’t going perfectly. You could be jet lagged, hangry, or just tired from all the excitement. Hand in hand with a vacation in mind, you both will have to work and act like a team. You’ll need to budget, plan, save, etc. Not everything will be rainbows and butterflies, but it will be a great experience for you two to see how much work goes into traveling before the fun begins.

Being able to have that amazing little experience with someone special is priceless. I know Kolani and I will have plenty of more trips to come, but this one will always be one of my favorites.

Make sure to look at flights everyday, the prices always fluctuate!

And of course if the idea of planning a trip really overwhelms you, then I would recommend checking out my friends website. Lauren is behind the amazing travel agency Sweet Mun. One of my friends has used her talent to plan a trip to Europe and had nothing but great things to say, so definitely check it out!

Tiki Bar Goals

As mentioned in the previous post, Tangaroa Terrace and Trader Sam’s are apart of the same building or restaurant. Tangaroa Terrace is the family friendly buffet style spot, and Trader Sam’s is the enchanted Tiki Bar, for friends twenty one and over.

I added a lot of photos of Trader Sam’s on my instagram and instagram story. Although we went to Disneyland on a “rainy” weekend in Los Angeles, it was like being on the islands when we were at Trader Sam’s. Compared to Washington, L.A. rain is much more humid and enjoyable.

IMG_2866

We came here a few times over our stay, because we loved the atmosphere. While the bar is small, the outside eating area is PERFECT for those ultimate vacation vibes. I honestly could have just laid out there for hours, it was so relaxing.

IMG_2838

Ugh this photo is making me so nostalgic, the food and drinks were so good!

Here, we ordered the Kalua-style Pork Flatbread: pulled pork, barbecue sauce, red onion, cilantro and mozzarella. Talk about yummy! And for our drink we ordered Uh Oa!: Light and dark rums, orange, passion fruit, guava, pineapple, grapefruit juices, Falernum, cinnamon and fresh lime juice. If that doesn’t scream vacation or island vibes I really don’t know what will.

Splitting the yummy uh oa with my travel buddy.

IMG_2865

If I could just sit on this outdoor furniture, watching the palm trees sway in the early summer sun while drinking fruity tropical drinks, that’d be great.

Trader Sam’s is also inside the Disneyland Hotel Resort, so if you’re staying there or just passing through, I would definitely check this place out.

Our Favorite Breakfast Spot at the Disneyland Hotel!

There are two different parts to the Tangaroa Terrace restaurant at The Disneyland Hotel. Today’s blog post is going to focus on the family friendly area.

We had three full days at Disneyland, and each morning Kolani and I went to this restaurant for breakfast.

After we had gotten to our hotel in the early ours of the morning, we were starting to get hungry and decided to plan ahead and find a spot for breakfast for later on in the day. We googled breakfast spots and found plenty of overpriced or overbooked places- even the room service breakfast was nearly $50 a person!

Considering it was our first day there, we didn’t want to blow $100 on just a breakfast. As I searched around, I came upon Tangaroa Terrace, a family friendly buffet style restaurant with great prices.

IMG_2842.JPG

Since we were guests at the Disneyland Hotel and had access to Early Magic Morning, we were able to get to the restaurant early before any crowds took over. The restaurant was within walking distance from our room, and also near the pool and other restaurants like Goofy’s Kitchen and Steakhouse 55.

Both of us had ordered a Breakfast Platter (pictured above) priced at $14 a person. The Breakfast Platter is so. damn. good. It comes with scrambled eggs, juicy bacon, and spicy home fries that are seasoned with red and green peppers.

IMG_2865

It’s filling, delicious, and won’t leave you feeling hungry. I really liked this breakfast spot, it was fast, quiet and definitely didn’t break the bank compared to the competitors!

Staying at the Disneyland Hotel!

Here we go everyone, the first of many Disneyland blog posts! I’m so excited to share my experience with you all. Kolani and I had such an incredible trip, it was honestly so perfect and dreamy and I can’t stop reliving it. So to kick things off, I’m going to share with you our experience staying at the Disneyland hotel.

We had a late flight, which led us to arrive at the hotel via an Uber at 2 am. Even though we were exhausted, I couldn’t get over the fact that we were actually there.

Kolani and I had been talking about going to Disneyland almost since we first started dating. What I love most about Disneyland is how themed everything is; it’s really another world down there and sweeps you away from reality.

Walking into the hotel, you’ll find spacious seating and very helpful front desk associates. There’s also different themed towers like the different lands in the park (ex. the Adventureland Tower). Kolani & I stayed in the Frontierland Tower, which was the southern most wing, located just behind the pool.

IMG_2908

There were two things I absolutely loved about our hotel room: the windows and the bed/headboard. (I apologize in advance for the emojis and the text on the picture above, I forgot to save the picture before those edits). Okay, but get this, as some of you may have seen on my Instagram story, there were two switches on the lamp that was on the right nightstand. One obviously turned on the lamp, while the other would light the headboard (as seen above) and play a sweet music box rendition of a Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes. When I discovered this, I burst into giggles. I mean seriously, how cool is that?! I think we had way too much fun switching it on and off, we even danced to it at one point.

IMG_2824

The second thing I loved about our stay is the fact that we were booked into a corner room. If you’re staying in a city, I feel like it’s a must to reserve a corner room in order to get a spectacular view. During the day, the sunshine would flood in and at night, you could see all the lights and palm trees of Anaheim.

IMG_2907

Kolani and I loved lounging in our Disneyland hotel bathrobes too. We were such kids feeling like grown ups, the bathrobes gave us an extra dose of vacation vibes.

Within the vicinity of the four towers of the hotel were incredible restaurants, and of course we tried a few, but the food reviews are going to be in other posts.

If you’re planning a trip to Disneyland, I would definitely recommend this hotel. One, because it’s a great place, and two, because of all the perks! If you stay at any of the Disneyland hotels, you are then automatically apart of Magic Morning.

What is Magic Morning Chloe?

Well, I’m so glad you asked, reader.

Magic Morning is this incredible luxury that only Disneyland hotel guests receive. Exclusively for those few only, hotel guests are able to access the park ONE HOUR EARLY before it opens to the public! However both parks alternate magic mornings on either days, meaning that both parks are not open for Magic Morning on the same day. On the Friday that we were there, California Adventure had the Magic Morning, and on Saturday, Disneyland had it.

This really helped us and saved our butts during our trip because we literally walked on to almost every ride. Given, Fast Passes and Max Passes were also a HUGE help with that too, but we’ll get into that later.

I’m going to be going into more detail about Magic Morning, Fast Passes, Max Passes and much much more! So make sure you’re signed up on the email list to receive notifications on future blogs posts!
