PTV Assignment: Your Product

For this assignment, I was instructed to design or add some flair to the “signature bag” I had created. This tote bag is simple, with a cute minimalist flair.

I took the design into my own hands, thinking about what my personal preferences were. I like things simple and efficient-no busy or over the top designs. I actually really love the simple design I’ve added, overtime it could be expanded- maybe different colors, adding quotes, etc.

It is a simple tote, but it’s something that I see as being very practical. Whether you’re running a few errands or enjoying a sunny day at the local farmers market, this bag is ideal.

Going over the production costs was a little interesting, but the overall price seemed to be appropriate for the quality of this bag.

PTV Assignment: Your Mockup

For this assignment, I was instructed to create my own “signature bag”. Originally, I had designed a messenger bag, but I realized that I would personally prefer a tote bag.

Although I’m not that crafty let alone good at sewing, the bag pictured above is the tote I have created for this assignment. Eventually, I will be adding some design to the surface, to add more uniqueness and originality.

PTV Assignment: Retail Marketing

When I read that for this assignment I would have to find a floorset I liked, only one store stood out to me. I might be biased, since Nordstrom is one of my favorite stores, but I absolutely love the way they set their store up.

Especially in the downtown Seattle store, everything is set up to a T. Whether you’re walking near the shoes, high fashion, or wedding department, it’s easy to say that the entire store is nothing short of a fashion museum. Nordstrom values all of their products, they put them on display like a work of art. Which I’ve always believed that true fashion is art. If you look at these detailed blouses or wedding gowns, anyone can tell that these are not just “clothes” they are works of art which become a form of identity.

Think about it, whatever you decide to wear is what you are presenting yourself as-whatever you wear is representing the person that you are. I would hardly call fashion or taking pride in how you look as shallow. Having a necessary appropriate fashion sense is essential if you want to be taken seriously.

Back to the set up-Nordstrom displays their product like how it should be. It makes me intrigued and curious to go there often to see what other works of “art” will be displayed. It’s beautiful because I feel like this one of the few stores that understands the fashion is art concept. Any store like a Walmart is obviously extremely different but it’s not a very shoppable, comfortable atmosphere.

It’s that time of  the year again!

Well, I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and not too crazy of a Black Friday. I can’t believe it’s the beginning of the Christmas season now, officially. I mean, for the most part, I feel like people aren’t going to be as critical of the Christmas spirit now that Thanksgiving has passed.

With all that being said, I’m here to tell you about Small Business Saturday. Small Business Saturday is a special day for small, local, handmade sellers. It is a day completely focusing on the handmakers of the world.

This is the first year that I am really trying to participate and make my store known. I really have this strong passion in making candles. Maybe that sounds a little silly, but honestly candles are essential. Anytime you find yourself in complete and utter relaxation bliss, there has to be a candle somewhere.

I think candles add something special to the room, the fragrance is heavenly, and they’re just so therapeutic. Most importantly, my candles are made with 100% soy wax so they’re totally pet friendly.

I don’t know if this is something that is widely known, but normal wax actually burns off toxins that are obviously hazardous to pets. Soy wax is popular for a lot of reasons, but this I feel, is the most important one. Always be considerate of  the air you breathe as well as the air your pet breathes.

My sale starts tomorrow, November 25th, 2017. It’s one day only, and the deal is almost too good to be true. We’re talking 2 candles for the price of  ONE. That’s right, you’ll be getting 2 soy candles for only 15$. But hurry, candles are limited!

For Vegas

There are absolutely no words to describe the horror that happened in Las Vegas.

I find myself  lost in a chaos of thoughts, wondering what in the world could lead to such an indescribable, horrific event.

No words of comfort will ever be enough. Even if I were to write the most beautiful tribute to the victims; this piece in no way can we bring back the irreplaceable lives that were lost.

My heart is heavy, my mind is racing. No explanation can be formed. No one in their right mind would inflict so much pain and hurt on the world much less the families affected.

The only peace I could possibly have to offer, is that when horrific things like this do happen, we become so much closer together. We are  not strangers. We are all one. We send love, we grieve with you, we offer what ever we can. We remember who we are and realize all that we have taken for granted.

Because while this country is seemingly crumbling because of  hate, we remain united against acts of terror. Every honorable American understands that we are the United States of America, and if any act of terror attempts to dismantle that, we will take back what’s ours.

Every single damn person deserves peace, equality, and love.

Take a moment to reach out to all your dear friends and family, those whom you could not live without.

Tell them you love them.

We should not be afraid of dying because of living our life.

My heart goes out to all those affected and victimized by this attack.

Fuck terror.

February 1st, 2017: Carmen

-What is your name and occupation?
Hello! My name is Carmen Galeano and I work alongside my husband in youth ministry and I teach secondary art part-time at an academy. When I’m not doing those jobs I’m a mom of two boys and I run a personal blog 🙂
-Why do you think women judge each other so harshly?
The reasons honestly are endless and sometimes far deeper than most of us even understand. I truly believe that we as women judge harshly, because we in our own way believe our way is best. Dare I say many judgements are out of ignorance rather than intention.
-What do you think young women need to hear more often?
Develop the skill of being comfortable in your own skin. We all fight so much to be as far from or different than we really are that we convince ourselves of a lie. Or the “friends” we think we have are less than stellar. When you start becoming comfortable with who you are, you’ll find the quality of your life grows tremendously. All areas of it, and the world around you benefits from your self-acceptance and love.
What do you think is your best quality?
I think my best quality is listening haha. Though I love laughing and creating, I think I’m really good at just being a listening ear.
-What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of being able to successfully have a VBAC with my second child Titus. Birth is something I had hoped to experience naturally, but was unable to with my first. So being able to plan and have a vaginal birth was incredible.
-What advice would you give your younger self?
Love yourself! Truly love who you are, because it’s great and wonderful. You offer something to this world and don’t forget that.
-How do you find ways to be happy?
As I’ve embraced and respected that I’m an introvert at heart, I make sure to take breaks and have time to myself. I’m most happiest usually after my kids are asleep and I know I took care of them, my mind is able to rest. So I read or write or just mentally relax.
-How do you learn to love yourself more?
I think it’s a process. It’s a cycle of forgiving yourself and creating your own safe place – that sense of being comfortable in your own skin. Truly loving yourself is knowing yourself: good, bad, and indifferent.
-How do you think other girls could learn to love themselves more?
I think by surrounding yourself with other women that love themselves. I’m a firm believer of two things: 1. You are what you believe and 2. You can only take someone as far as you’ve been. So if you’re around insecure women they can only take you that far or women that don’t believe in the importance of loving who you are will exemplify that.
– Is there anything else you would like to add?
Thank you so much for having me!! I really love what you’re doing and can’t wait to see the love and positivity spread from your space!

Mariah : January 2nd, 2017

What is your name, age and occupation?
My name is Mariah, I am 18 and I work in retail.

Why do you think women judge each other so harshly?
I feel like somehow everyone is jealous of each other. So people try to find something wrong with the person that they’re judging to make themselves feel higher then that person. In a way society makes it okay for people to judge other people. Especially with girls, we see celebrities being judged every day. So we feel like we’re critics.

What do you think young women need to hear more often?
That it’s okay to be weak and vulnerable sometimes. That ties in with the last question because everyone is judged and it’s okay to show your feelings towards that. I feel like women feel like they have to be strong all the time and not show that something hurts. It’s okay to make mistakes.

What do you think is your best quality?
I think I’m a good listener. I feel like people are comfortable coming to me with their problems, even if I don’t give the best advice, sometimes it’s good for people to just vent. Because for me, I like to tell certain people my problems and I don’t want necessarily want for them to say something back I just have to let it out. And I feel like I’m like that for people like they can just come and talk to me about their problems.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Graduating high school. That makes me seem like a slacker, but throughout my academic year I had tough situations that I went through. When my cousin passed away and when my mom had cancer, I felt like I had to grow up really fast. So in high school I kind of rebelled and felt like it wasn’t as important because I mentally already grew up so fast.

What advice would you give your younger self?
That you don’t have to accomplish everything. Like with me growing up so fast so young. Like it’s okay to have a childhood, to make mistakes. You don’t have to please everyone. A lot of kids feel like they have to grow up super fast because of situations that they’re in. When my mom was sick I felt like I had to grow up and take care of her and I didn’t let anyone else take care of me.

How do you find ways to be happy?
Panda Express. I get happy when I’m around certain, positive people or when I’m in a positive environment. But honestly Panda Express makes me happy.

How do you learn to love yourself more?
I’ve always been super self conscious about my body type because I used to be a pretty chubby kid. If I’m feeling down about myself, I look at old pictures and you can see a huge difference. I’ve lost almost 100 pounds, so it’s nice to see how far I’ve come. When I was little I was obsessed with being skinny but now I see all these plus sized models and it makes me feel better about myself.

How do you think other girls could find ways to love themselves more?
I feel like everyone should find something about themselves that they admire, or that other people admire. It’s always good to compliment girls and boost their self confidence because you never know they could be insecure about certain things that you actually like about them. Every girl should find something they like about themselves whether it’s a physical quality or another quality about themselves. You never know what they could be going through that day, and then just one compliment could make them feel better. More girls need to compliment instead of judging each other.
