The Best Rom-Coms to Watch with Your Spouse

Valentine’s Day is almost upon us, and it’s safe to say that finding ways to celebrate special occasions can be a little tricky. But for people like Kolani and I, we prefer to have a lowkey evening just the two of us. We’re not big on gifts but we are huge movie lovers. Here’s a list of rom-coms to watch this weekend, that both you and your spouse can enjoy (even if they don’t like rom-coms).

Here are 14 picks (for February 14th hehe) that are some of our favorites.

1. Stardust

Technically not a rom-com, but this is our go to movie when we don’t know what to watch. It never gets old. It’s jam packed with adventure, humor and captivates your attention the entire movie.

2. Crazy Rich Asians

I was actually pleasantly surprised by how good this movie is, and how much Kolani and I liked it. First off, the Asian representation in this movie is amazing. The story of course surrounds Rachel and Nick, but dives deeper into Asian traditions and culture which I loved seeing! Just an all around great movie.

3. 50 First Dates

A TOTAL classic. Adam Sandler is a God of comedy to men, we know this. So in my opinion, it’s a win win for this movie. Add in an Adam Sandler comedy mixed with a romantic twist and you’ll have both you and your man laughing the whole movie.

4. Palm Springs

Kolani was the one who suggested this pick a couple months ago and it’s been another go to favorite of ours. Stuck in an infinite time loop and reliving the same day over and over can seem dreadful to some, but others might see the opportunity to live each “day” to the fullest, as if it were your last.

5. Crazy Stupid Love

I will take Ryan Gosling in any movie. Except Drive, that was a bit much. But Ryan Gosling and Steve Carell were a dynamic duo that I didn’t know I needed. And who can forget the insane chemistry between Gosling and Emma Stone? No wonder they made so many movies together.

6. The Ugly Truth

This is definitely a raunchier comedy, but it’s fun to see men’s and women’s views on dating! Although some (most) of the jokes didn’t age well, it’s still a good movie just to have on if you’re not looking to have a serious movie night.

7. Breakfast at Tiffany’s

SUCH. A. CLASSIC. I have loved this movie for as long as I can remember for obvious reasons. Audrey Hepburn is an iconic goddess and I think we all know that. A couple years ago, I put this one on and I’m not sure what it was about this movie, but it captivated Kolani’s attention. Anytime I watch, he sits down with me to join.

8. Hitch

This movie is another modern day classic. I think it’s such a perfect blend of entertainment for both men and women to watch. Such a cute, fun story with a great cast!

9. Dirty Dancing

Who can forget the end scene at camp when “Now I’ve, had the time of my life,” blares over the speakers and Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze prove that their dancing is passionate and not distasteful like all the other stuck up camp people assumed. It’s a great story, must watch!

10. Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Image result for forgetting sarah marshall poster

I love almost all of Jason Segal’s comedies because there’s something about him that makes him feel like he’s an old friend. This is a great couple’s comedy to watch that will make you both chuckle.

11. When Harry Met Sally

I watched this for the first time last fall (it’s a great movie to watch in autumn because of the stunning fall scenery), and fell in love. Basically any movie written by Nora Ephron or Nancy Meyers is going to be a favorite for me. It’s a simple story, but with great conversation points between both Harry and Sally. I love it.

12. Sleepless in Seattle

Okay, so there’s going to be another Meg Ryan rom-com after this one, but she was basically a rom-com queen in the 80’s/90’s so I stand by my decision to include three of her movies. Also this takes place in Seattle so how could I not include it? Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan have great chemistry too, making this plot in particular easy to follow.

13. La La Land

Unpopular opinion: La La Land is one of the greatest movies of all time. I have such a soft, special place in my heart for this movie for multiple reasons. Kolani actually took me to the Seattle Symphony a few years back for Valentine’s Day to watch the music be performed live along with the movie playing. Talk about magical. I wouldn’t even say that this is really a rom-com, but just a movie about how life get is in the way and timing is everything.

14. You’ve Got Mail

Another one of my favorite movies of all time, and oh look, it’s Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan in a movie directed by Nora Ephron. I’m so predictable. This movie takes place in New York and revolves around two people’s love and perception for books and business. It’s intriguing, to me, to watch how Kathleen Kelly and Joe Fox open each other’s eyes and help each other see things in a different way.

Those are my 14 picks to watch this weekend for a cozy Valentine’s Day!

Have you seen any of these? Can you think of others that should have made the list? Let me know!

I had the loveliest little moment this afternoon t I had the loveliest little moment this afternoon that I just had to share. I was on my lunch break at work, walking over to a nearby Panera. Escaping the biting cold winds outside, I grabbed a small table by their cozy faux fireplace and enjoyed my meal while reading a few chapters of my book. I took a long route walking back to work, just in time to enjoy the snow flurries that started. I’ve been think about this small moment all day and how happy it made me. To enjoy a cozy quiet meal by myself and have a nice slow winter walk really lifted my spirits. In my down time, I’m trying to make more effort to stay off social media and enjoy other things that bring me peace. I want to get in a habit where I’m reaching for a book before I’m reaching for my phone. Anyways, I hope you all are having a wonderful week. ❄️📚

spending this wonderfully cozy & rainy friday morn spending this wonderfully cozy & rainy friday morning working on my first book review of 2021! I feel like this year is going to be very book obsessed for me. I’m finding myself adding books to my reading list almost on a daily basis, and of course I’m putting the finishing touches on my own novel as well! It’s going to such a great year, I can’t wait for what’s ahead. Do you have any book related things you’re excited about? 📚

8 months, 135 pages & 23 chapters later, and my bo 8 months, 135 pages & 23 chapters later, and my book is DONE. 📖

How is this possible? Like it still feels like a work in progress, I wonder how many times I’ll edit it and have it be edited. But it’s done.

I’ve been wanting to have it done for so long and now I’m getting anxious about releasing it. I get nervous about bad reviews or what if my story isn’t anything great?

I can always write more books which, let’s face it, I probably will. But since this will be my first published book I feel like it will set the tone for future projects. I’ve put this insurmountable pressure on my shoulders but I hope that it will be worth it.

Hoping to share more details very soon ❤️🎊
