A question I get asked a lot is ‘can I get a merchandising job with no experience, and if so how do I do it?’ Yes, and no. You can’t go into the job with absolutely no experience because for any field that’s unrealistic.
The amount of experience required depends on the company. So for me, I did everything I could to learn about merchandising before I ended up applying for the job. I have compiled many tips and tricks across my platforms that can help you officially enter the merchandising world
1. Merchandising with No Experience Video:
This video goes over easy tips that you can do whenever on your own time and budget (I still use some of these too, to improve my merchandising abilities!)
2. Mini Merchandising Guides
Mini Merchandising Guide
In my first ever merchandising guide, I’m sharing tips and tricks of how to successfully begin your journey into the visual merchandising world. I’ll be sharing my story, the basics and variations of merchandising, as well as other resources I believe will help you reach your full merchandising potential.
Mini Merchandising Guide Pt. 2
In the second mini merchandising guide, we’re going over common merchandising practices, recommended classes to take, and interview prep for a merchandising position.
I created these two guides at the end of last year as easy affordable reads. The first guide is an introduction to Merchandising. The second guide is filled with merchandising practices, more resources, and interview prep for a merchandising position.
3. YellowBrick Course

I completed the Fashion Industry Essentials online course a couple years before I officially entered the world of merchandising. In this course, you learn a wide variety of fields in the fashion industry such as marketing, production, and design. You can learn more here: http://bit.ly/Chloe_FIE
4. Merchandising Books

I am constantly looking for books to read that will give me more insight about the fashion industry, particularly merchandising in general. I’ve made it a personal goal that I will never stop learning, and I get frequently asked about books that I might recommend. Knowledge is power people, and you can start by taking a look at my merchandising & marketing book page here.
I hope this post was helpful! If you try any of these tips or resources definitely let me know down in the comments!
