Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! For today’s blog post, I’m going to share with you the story of how Kolani & I met! This was actually a very requested blog post, and I’m really excited to tell it and walk down memory lane with you! I’ve also been wanting to do a video like this, or like a couple’s q&a video with Kolani for sometime now. If this is something you’d like to see, just let me know down in the comments below!
Kolani and I started “talking” around New Year’s Eve of 2016 (cliche, right?) Funnily enough, we met through Tinder. Of all places, I never imagined I’d meet the love of my life online. I’m very much a romantic and I was waiting for that meet cute in the book shop or something charming like that.
It’s funny to think of how we used to talk to each other when we were total strangers. At the time, I had three different instagram accounts: one for my blog, one for my old etsy shop, and a personal one. When he first messaged me, it wasn’t even a hello, it was “are you even real?” Just plain and simple. It wasn’t like some shitty pickup line, he really thought I was catfishing him at first.
I’d also like to point out that I like to sing, so inevitably I have a couple videos on my instagram account of me singing. However, the sound on Kolani’s old phone at the time didn’t work, so even though we were messaging, he had never heard my voice in any way before. (remember this, it’s important).
Anyways, we’re messaging each other, things are going well. I had offered a couple times to meet up with him somewhere casual like the mall (so it would be in a public place, I mean, it was Tinder), and just to keep it low key. The last time I had asked him to meet up with me, he declined (again), and said he was sick. I did believe him, but I thought he just wasn’t really interested because he had kept saying no. A little while later, it was New Year’s Eve, and I was over at a friend’s house with my old roommate, having a tiny get together. Kolani kept messaging me, asking me to come out to Seattle to spend New Year’s Eve with him and his friends in the city. They were all playing pool at one of his favorite bars, The Garage. I thought about it for a couple minutes, but quickly declined. There were multiple reasons that made me too anxious to go. I’d have to go by myself, because my roommate wasn’t 21, I’d have to drive through the snow 40 minutes out to meet someone I’d never met before and hangout with all his guy friends. Now, I will say Kolani is seriously the sweetest guy I have ever met, but I don’t regret one bit that I didn’t go that night. I was being safe and realistic. Again, it was Tinder and the internet and you never know who you’re going to meet.
He was really bummed I said no, but I think he later came to terms with why I didn’t go. After New Year’s Eve, we hadn’t been talking as much as we had been. One day, he messages me and asks me what I’m up to. I told him that I would be working soon, (ironically we worked at the same mall, but never crossed paths. So Tinder literally gave fate the little push it needed). And soon after my shift began, he came in to the store and we finally met.
When Kolani and I have talked about this moment, he told me he was really nervous, and thought to himself, if I don’t go in and meet her now, I never will. It was a slow day at the store, I was mindlessly folding clothes and out of the corner of my eye, I saw a dark figure coming in. I just knew- it was him. After I texted him told him I was working, I had the worst anxiety because he hadn’t texted me back and I was certain he was going to come in. He said hello, and I acted sheepishly and pretended like I hadn’t heard or seen him (very mature, I know). He brought his dog Tracey with him, probably to break the ice and what not.
We talked for a little bit about random things. It was hard to pay attention, because since I worked in retail, I had my radio and ear piece in, and my coworkers were going crazy in the back, saying all sorts of things in my ear, I couldn’t concentrate. He asked me what my schedule was like, because he wanted to have an actual date.
Another time I was working a couple days later, he came in and brought me a pepperoni pretzel, because I texted him saying I was hungry. He went on his break, got me the pretzel, then came into my store and gave it to me. I felt embarrassed, like I had been complaining or something. He then said he’d like to cook me dinner, and that’s when I lost it. I kept giggling uncontrollably, because that’s something you hear in a romantic comedy, not real life.
The rest, is pretty much history. I knew Kolani was different, he was very mysterious and wouldn’t let me in at first. he interrogated me a lot, asking me questions about anything and everything. He was also a total gentleman; he literally courted me for 2-3 weeks. He’d kiss my cheek, or kiss my hand every now and then-but that was it. That was the only physical contact we had, because he wanted to make sure I was the real deal (this is what he’s told me).
Now here we are two years later with the cutest dog IN THE WORLD and living life. I can’t wait to see what our future brings us. I hope you guys enjoyed our little story! It’s a sweet one to share. Again, if you’d like to see a video of us answering questions about our relationship, or just to hear more of Kolani’s thoughts about our meeting, let me know in the comments below!
This has been a chloscall. Until next time, Chloe.
